Martin Judas Bang-bie Dery

Executive Director, Pronet North

A candidate for a Ph.D. in Endogenous Development at the University for Development Studies in Tamale, Ghana, I bring a wealth of academic and professional experience to the table. I hold a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in Development Studies with a focus on Indigenous Knowledge, which I earned in 2010 from the University for Development Studies, Tamale. Additionally, I possess a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Political Science with Philosophy, awarded in 1990 by the University of Ghana, Legon in Accra.

With over 25 years of hands-on experience as a Development Practitioner and Manager, I have successfully supervised and implemented various projects across multiple sectors. My expertise spans Integrated Water, Hygiene, and Environmental Sanitation; HIV/AIDS awareness and community nutrition programs; initiatives promoting inclusive girls’ education; and enhancing women’s participation at all levels. I have also worked extensively in strengthening decentralization efforts, advocating for rooted policy changes, and engaging in disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and response activities.

My key goal is to champion the integration of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and to elevate the role of women in sustainable development efforts, ensuring that their voices are heard and valued.

I am a founding member of the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) and serve on its Elders Committee. Additionally, I am an active member of the Network for the Promotion of the Rights of Women (NETRIGHT) and contribute to the Steering Committee for the Northern Rural Growth Program (NRGP). I also serve as an Accredited Monitor for the Business Advocacy Challenge (BUSAC) Fund in Ghana.
